Can I attach an outdoor antenna to the cables left by the cable company?

The cable box is still on the outside of our house but we don't have cable. Can we mount our outdoor antenna beside it and use that coaxal cable (sp?) already there to connect the two together?

The question is...will the antenna work?

yep, they're your wires, you can do as you please with them and the antennae signal will go to any tuner that your cable previously went to

The antenna should work just fine but you will need to buy a couple of adaptors. One will go on the antenna end and the other will go on the TV end. The coaxial connection on the back of your TV will not wokr wiht an outside antenna because the impedence is different. Just put an adaptor on the TV end of the cable and attach it where the outside antenna is supposed to connect.

Of course, this all assumes tht the coaxial cable is wire and not fiber optic. If it is fiber optic, it will not work.

Yes you can. The coax that the cable company uses is 75 ohm, same as the cable you will use on your antenna. If any of your TV's have a separate UHF/VHF input, you will need a splitter. The only concerns are:

1. How many sets are you splitting the signal to? You may need to add a signal booster.

2. Do your sets have digital tuners? As of Feb, 2009, broadcast stations will drop their analog transmission. If your TV's are analog, you will need converter boxes for each one.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: You will disconnect the line from your cable company, and connect the antenna to the cable that goes in the house. Yes, your antenna will work fine, as long as your TV's have the proper tuners, and as long as your antenna is pointed in the proper direction. Small end points to the source of the signal. Good luck.

Yes - like there is going to be anyone with a job just going around checking for old wires.

Yes it will work. No problem in doing it just make sure all your connections are tight
