How can I get rid of a wasp nest?

There is a wasp nest dug underground in my back garden, and i want to know how I can get rid of it. I have bought several things, including a powder for the entrance, but it didnt work. I have also tried blocking up the entrance several times, but to no avail. I am now thinking of pouring petrol, or something flamable down the hole and lighting it. Will this work? Also, since it is winter, will they just die out, or will they hibernate and come back with a vengence? Its beginning to get cold already, but theyre still very active, and very much alive!

Get hold of your local pest control officer from Council

I had the exact same problem. Find all the entrances. Block all but one then pour some petrol down the hole and the fumes will kill the f****r's by asphixiation. You dont need much just 1/2 a cup should do it. Happy killing. By the way if you don't do it some will live through the winter and it will be a bigger problem next year.

best bet is to call your local council and they will come out and deal with them. They did this for me about 3 years ago and it cost about 拢37. Also you can call out PPM direct and they will do it!

if you can sit tight the winter will kill them off ,as a rule they never return to the same nest they build new ones,got one in my loft.

"Exterminator" what a cool word. I saw Nick Lachey do this on newly weds, he bought stuff 3 0r 4 times before he got it to work then the gimp tasted the honeycomb and threw up for the rest of the day cos it was covered in the chemicals that he had poured on the nest duh!! I would call in the professionals if I were you, the petrol idea sounds tempting but could lead to disaster so DONT do that!

pour petrol into it. you don't need to light it (and if you do it'll flare outy of the openings...) but the wasps really don''t like it at all. i don't think the winter will kill em off...

Use any pest control company.

Forget the petro, It's too dangerous. Go to the gardening section in most any hard ware store and buy a product called Sevin dust. Sprinkle a small amount around and in the entrance hole of their nest. This will not kill them right away. They will carry the dust back to the nest, it chemically burns them, and in about 2 weeks the bees will be gone. I hope this helps.

put a firework in it or u could set it alite with petrol

Contact Environmental Health at your local Council. Ask for the Pest Control officer to come out. It might cost you, but at least they'll be gone. I think ours officer comes back until they are gone as part of the initial fee.

Do it on the 5th of Nov & stand well back!

They may hibernate if it doesn't get that cold, but you may wait til freezing and pour rock salt and bleach in the nest to kill their smell.

50/50 Diesel Fuel /Gasoline

dump in the hole , light fuse and get away.

Diesel slows the combustion of Gasoline. You wind up with a slow cooking mess of Wasps and Larva.

Put it on Ebay. It'll be gone in a minute....

As per other suggestions-fire or better yet- call the county pest control office. They have good resources and expert advice!

They will die this month and during the winter you can block the hole up. If they are not bothering you why do you want to kill them, they are good for the garden and usually are more interested in searching for food than in human beings. I have had one at the bottom of my allotment for the last 2 years and have had no bother at all and they assist me with the extermination of greenfly.

Its nice to see you want to get rid of them and take personally responsibility for your own land rather than expect others to do it for you - good on you....What a said state of affairs when one gets congratulated for doing something we all did 20 years ago without even thinking about it...sorry, where were we.

Oh yes, wasps.

I'd restrict the hole to an inch diameter or so. Then use a blow torch or something down the hole. This will not burn the wasps but use up all the oxygen in the hole. Seal it afer a couple of minutes. I bet they'l be dead the next day. Works for rodents as well.

Or try a proprietry fuming spray - DIY shop or garden centre

Below 50 degrees they get a little slow.
the colder the slower. If you live where it gets cold enough to snow you won't have the problem much longer. You won't see them until next year IF they come back.

DO NOT set the nest on fire. This will not destroy all of the wasps, and the ones that survive are sure to go on the rampage. They won't die because it's winter. The queen and some of the wasps will stay in the nest and mate. The queen will live until next summer and then the new eggs will hatch and you'll have the same problem. Get a professional pest controller to deal with it.

put honey all over your neighbours house. if that desnt remove them call the firedepartment. they are of good help o professionally remove the nest

There is a product called wasp killer, the contents turn into a foam and kills wasp instantly and the wasp won't return to the nest.

i got rid of a wasps nest in my loft i got a length of 1and a half inch plastic tube i stuck the tube in the nest and then i squirted a can of wasp spray down the tube right in to the middle of the nest i watched all the wasps die then i broke up the nest so that they would not come back they have not come back that was 2 years ago
