How do I get my manual recliner to an upright position?

I just bought a manual recliner. It has a lever on its side which I lift to release it to a reclining position. To restore it to an upright position however, I have to get off and push it back in with my hands. Is this how its supposed to work or how do I restore it to an upright position using the lever on its side. Thanks.

Just push it the other way! If it doesn't work, then it's broke and you need to take it back where you bought it. Also you need to push down with your feet as you do.

my kids broke mine and i had to fix it myself and now i cant even open it
