How hard is it to install a paver patio? Is the hardest part the labor? Is it pretty easy otherwise?

We were thinking of tackling this ourselves. I think, from what I can see, the hardest part will be the actual hard labor involved. We can rent a tamper, and buy all the necessary supplies. Should we try it ourselves?

You can do it yourself. The hardest most time consuming part is the prep work. Leveling the ground and making sure you have a nice base to place the pavers on. Without that, in time it will be messed up.

i'd say leveling the ground is the hardest part.
of course it's labor intensive but if it's something you REALLY want to do, it's a labor of LOVE.

its not hard , go for it
have fun

Like all the other comments it is labor intensive. I have done about 6 or so. Each with their own challenges - from pavers to flag stone to wood blocks.
However careful you will be, you will always be the one to notice the mistakes no matter how small they are.
I did a 20 x 30 paver patio and it looked great. 20T of back fill shoveled by hand due to location. Perfect level, when it rained, remaining water stood still. But if you looked at it from the one corner it didn't look level. Drove me nuts. It turned out to be an optical illusion as the back of the patio approached an irregular hill. No one but me noticed that it appeared unlevel.
Ah, but is was nice setting on it in the evening with a cold beverage in hand. Good luck.
