How to get rid of mold on the wall caused by water leak? |
Water has been leaking behind my bathroom wall It has now caused mold to show on the wall. How can I get rid of the mold? What type of professional (plumber, carpenter, etc.) could tell if the drywall needs to be replaced? The first is find the source of the problem and correct it. Bleach and water in a spray bottle. bleach and water and then paint with the primer killz.. because it will prohibit the mold from growing Fix the leak first. Then take an equal mixture of water and bleach (clorox) and apply to the areas where the mold and mildew are present. This will kill the mold. It may re-appear again so perform the same task. Use a spray bottle to apply and let dry. If the problem continues you may have to remove the drywall and bleach the area behind and install new drywall and paint. If it is severe remove the drywall and replace it. Bleach & water solution. a mild bleach and water solution ...or a product called TSP that can be found at most home improvement places...But there still could be some staining that will not come off...For this they make a product call KILZ that is a stain blocker, primer....Use this before repainting so the stain wont transfer through....this product comes in two types Kilz2 is better for indoors as it is latex based...The regular kilz is oil based and the fumes are horrid.. bleach kid The simplest and cheapest mold killer is ordinary household bleach. You want to make a solution in a spray bottle with 3 parts water, 1 part bleach. Coming from a person that just had to rip out a wall and floor in the bathroom from a leak. Bleach gets rid of the mold, but ur first concern is the leak. If that's fixed, then ur good. But I didn't realize til the wall was ripped out how extensive the mold actually was. We just re drywalled and painted. Problem solved. Mix up one cup bleach with two cups water in a spray bottle spray it on and wipe it off! Works great! Good luck! stop the leak first. Then bleach and water. Clorox will do the trick, but if water has been leaking Behind the bathroom wall the same mold is there. So first you really need to take care of that as hard a job as that can be. bleach The first question is how deep into the wall is the mold? I think a professional needs to come in and check to make sure it hasn't traveled into the wood. Mold can make a person extremely ill and possibly be hospitalized. I would definitely get someone in there as soon as possible to check that out. |
