Is it safe to run an extension cord from my house to the shed and connect it to an electric blanket? |
I want to run an electric blanket in my shed during the winter to keep the outdoor cats warm. Would this be a fire hazard? NO NO NO NO NO!!!! FIRE HAZARD!!!!! DON'T DO IT!!!!! The disk is hard (like a frisbee), but the cats may like it if you bury it in blankets. Use an outdoor extension cord. If the extension cord is designed for outdoor use it is OK... but... ABSOLUTELY NOT. You will fry your cats. And burn down the shed too. They have fur to keep warm, give them exra blankets. NO EXTENSION CORDS!!! As long as you use an RCD where it plugs into the wall, you will be safe as. You aren't married are you? And don't plan on getting married anytime soon. Do not ever use an extension cord with an electric blanket. Your outdoor cats will not need this because they will curl up in a nice corner with a soft blanket and keep warm. Another thing would be safe on a heavy duty exterior extension cord would be one 40-60 watt light bulb in the shed to produce some heat. Unless you hate your cats and wish them dead, do not do it. Personally, I hate cats and would fry them in a heartbeat. But anyway, the proper way to install this is to run a circuit from the circuit breaker box in the house to the shed, and put a heater in the shed, not an electric blanket. The mangy cats would probably chew the cord of an electric blanket and fry themselves. If you used the right ( size, outdoor, etc. ) ext. cord plugged |
