How do you convert square feet to linear feet?

I am trying to buy flooring for my house. We have found the wood that we want but it is sold by the linear foot instead of the square foot. I need to know how many linear feet of wood to buy to cover 1300 square feet fo space. Please HELP!!

the boards are 7 1/2" wide 2 1/2" thick and 16' long. They are selling them for $3.00/linear foot.

multiply square feet times 12 and divide by the width of the wood (in inches) to get lineal feet.

so 100 square feet of two and a quarter flooring is

100 *12 /2.25 = 534 lineal feet - but you'll want to add 10% or so for cuts and bad bits.

it depends on how wide the planks are. i assume since you said you are looking for wood that you are getting planks that from 4 to 8 inches wide (for this, use 0.33 to 0.67 feet wide), and 3 to 5 feet long. To figure out the square footage of a plank, simply multiply the width by length. So, to do your 1300 sq ft house try this math. If it is a 6 inch plank that is 4 feet long, that would be 0.5 ft x 4 ft = 2 ft^2 = 2 sq ft. You would need at least 650 planks of this size to finish the job, since 650 planks x 2 sqft per plank = 1300 sq ft. If there were 10 planks per box, you would have to buy at least 65 boxes. Be careful though - you will have to cut some planks in order to fit them into corners, narrow hallways and closets, so buy extra in the beginning so you won't have to buy more when you want to finish the job. The biggest problem with buying from separate lots is that you may end up with two very different color shades, despite the fact that they both may be called "walnut" or whatever.

A 7.5 inch wide board will cover 7.5/12 = .625 square ft for each linear board foot. To cover 1300 sq ft:

1300 sq ft X 1 linear ft/.625 sq ft = 2080 linear ft

2080 linear ft/ 16 ft boards = 130 boards

At $3.00/ board ft X 2080 board ft = $6240

As previously suggested, you should buy a bit extra.

Multiply 1300 by 144 gives you sq inches .Answer 187200
Divide by sq inches of liniar foot 12 by 7.5 is 90 Final answer is 187200/90 = 2080 liniar feet
