What type of screw should I use for concrete block?

I want to attach a piece of wook to some concrete blocks, what type of screw should be used?

Get a screw anchor of the size needed to go with the screw size you want to use
Drill the appropriate size hole for the anchor with a masonary bit
Then tap the anchor into the hole and screw the screw through the "Work" into the anchor

Now isn't that simple???

There is a specific screw you need but I can't remember what kind and my husband isn't home right now to ask. But if you go into the building store, Lowes or whatever, they should be able to set you up with what you need.

Steel masonry screws at any hardware store. Be sure to get the correct size masonry bit for the screws.

TAP CON, often sold in a box/package with an appropriate size drill bit

use thunder bolts if your wall is solid or if u can drill into the ribs of the block.

Concrete "Molly"...drill a hole...set a lead piece and screw into the lead.

tapcons they are the best

Tapcon screws work well in concrete. You will need a 1/4" predrilled hole to drive the screw into.

If you mount to the mortar joint, a normal "concrete" screw will work. But if it's the hollow area, a butterfly bolt. You can go all the way through by drilling and use carriage bolts with washers.

You already have several good answers. For the most part I agree that tap-cons when used with the correct sized drill bit work well. Be careful not to get too long of a screw because concrete blocks are hollow. You will want to make sure the threads are biting in the block.

If you are holding something with a lot of weight to it, then I would suggest the butterfly bolts through the center of the block, or make sure you are drilling in the mortar seems to use tap-cons.

depending on what you are screwing and how thick you wood is you need mason screws and/or lagbolts
