How should I address small cracks in my stucco? |
Our 5 year old textured stucco has thin cracks of varying lengths, with widths of maybe 1/64 to 1/16 of an inch. What can I do to address these? if they are very thin, you may want to consider painting your house with elastomeric paint. Patch the larger cracks with stucco repair, and smooth out with a wet sponge before it dries completely. This has been a constant problem in various locations in our 8 year old home. We usually pry away all of the loose pieces, widen the cracks because there is loose stucco under the crack and patch. Home Depot sells a stucco repair kit which has enough stucco patch for several small areas. You have to also purchase the colorant to match your existing stucco though. Most of cracks on our house are at corners whereas most of the large separations are under doors. Now, we make a check on an annual basis so that the cracks do not become large areas where the stucco chunks off completely. There are also companies you can call to do stucco repairs but we found it was much less costly to do it ourselves and the results lasted just about as long. We do, however, live in an earthquake zone and the movement often causes cracks. Any address would be fine...just not mine |
