How to keep a gate from swinging in the wind?

I have a tall wooden gate (pressure treated fence board construction) that bangs back and forth in it's latch.

The gate only opens one way (from the back to the front yard) but when the wind is gusty it bangs back and forth making a loud banging sound against the gate (and therefore the house).

Any ideas on how to keep the gate steady while still being able to open the gate freely?

Try putting rubber padding between the gate and where it bangs.

I like things simple, I would probably just push a plant in a pot big enough to hold the gate shut, but easy enough to move when I wanted to leave ( and small enough that the gate could shove it if leaving from the back yard.) Or maybe you could glue some foam in the cracks that would stay when it was open but would keep it from moving in the wind. I know -maybe fix a flat put on it, let it dry for a second then open your gate and hopefully it will stay and make a seal when you shut it again. Actually I think I would stick to my plant idea!

put somthing heavy infront of it so it dont move, like a rock or u can hammer a stake into the ground infront of it, but u would have to remove the stake every time u go to open the gate, a rock is best because u can just slide it infront of the gate and remove it without much work

Tie a rope to the gate and another fixed point then hang a weight. If there is no room for that you may be able to attach a spring. Don't swipe one from your neighbors trampoline. Or your brothers old chest pull excercizer.

get a latch
