What is an authoritative source on concrete work?

Measuring the job, estimating materials, forming, finishing techniques, planning for expansion joints, curing, how to avoid ruining thejob due to heat etc.

many ideas and ways to do all of this, i would google it on : how to install concrete

measure: length x width = sq ft.

divide sq. by 81 ( sq yd )

this will tell u how much concrete at 4" deep. if deeper needed then lower the sq yd # ( 81 )

forming is mostly using 1 x 4 or 2x4 for forms and stake them in place with some fall if required.

finishing- u can broom finish it, slick finish.........

expansion joints- if pouring up next to a wall use "black board" around that area. if a free pour, then cut in ur joints every 10' or u can use a metal key way

allow 3 days before walking on it and water the surface, mist spray, 3 or 4 times a day. takes 28 days for concrete to cure 100%, but can drive on it in 4.

lic. gen. contractor

Taunton Press has many articles and books on the subject. Just search for "concrete" from the home page of their web site.
