What do I do when people are looking in my house windows and the garage?

The cops have not caught them yet. But it is pretty scary.
I just bought curtains(because we did not have any).
I lock the doors and windows.
But is there anything else I should do to make sure somebody does not get inside?
I just found this out today. A neighbor told us it was happening.

I like the idea of motion sensors connected to flood lights. They're relatively inexpensive. If it happens at night, it should be easy enough to scare them off or catch them. They may even make sensors connected to audible alarms so even if it's during the day, it'll make a noise to alert you, the neighbors or even scare off these people.

You may want to keep a digital camera handy at the front and back of the house to get a picture. A picture is worth a thousand words. Look for anything in their hands to see if they have tools to break in or bags to haul away your goods.

It would be a good idea to record/write down the dates/days and times this is happening. If you can spot the pattern, you might be able to anticipate them.

You should make sure your windows and doors are solid and deadbolted etc. If you have a door from the garage to the house, put a good lock on it and use it. Most of the stuff in a garage isn't a big deal unless you have nice power tools or Garmin's etc. in there but keep a lock on the door to the house.

I have a security system installed and only pay about $30/month for it. I've got sensors on all ground floor doors and windows and could opt for motion sensors if I wanted. That alarm scares the heck out of me when it goes off so I know it would keep the idiots away.

You can try to fake a camera or security system stickers but if they find out about it, your trick will be found out and they may try to get daring.

I'm not saying they're looking to break in but maybe they see something they like, could be kids trying to get back at any of your kids, it could be mistaken identity and they think you're someone else... who knows.

Chat with your neighbor and see if he/she can keep an eye out and give you more information.

Good luck.

Have motion detector lights all around your house. You might want to buy a gun from a friend or relative that is not registered. If you shot the people just breaking in, shoot them, but try not to kill them. Make sure they are in the house when the police get there, that way the burglars can't sue you for shooting them.

so you have relied on a neighbor and you don't know and don't have first hand info that somebody is peeking into your house. If you see someone peeking, get your digital camera out and take a picture and get it to the police.

Since you put up curtains and the show is over hopefully the peeper is gone. I would also trim all foundation shrubbery and put some security light on outside. Keep that garage door down and locked.

I would suggest placing motion sensored lights around your house. That way, whenever anyone gets close the lights will automatically come on and hopefully deter whoever is doing this.

You could get a dog that has a good-strong bark. If that's not possible, borrow one from a friend, relative, etc.

These people are getting ready for a break in. This happened to my neighbors a couple weeks ago.

get a glock!!!!!!!!!!

There are a lot of security products available. First, if you don't have it already, a dead bolt for any entry door. If you have a patio door, get one of these bars:

OR a wooden closet pole, down at the bottom.
There is a metal bracket that goes on the door frame, kind of like a hinge, that folds over the front of the door and slides down slightly. A police officer in Kansas City recommended them to me when my X kept breaking in.

"This house monitored by . . . . . alarm company" stickers use to be available at Radioshack, but I they aren't on their web site. Even with no alarm, they help. In the town where I live, the city requires me to register my alarm system. They give me a sticker to put on the window. Best $20 bucks I ever spent. With or without an alarm.

PS. If you follow Jack M's advice, make sure they are all the way in the house before using it. Statutes vary in different cities though.
