How can I convert a sunken tub to a walk in shower? |
member "feature00" said the Ortho Home Improvement Encyclopedia had info but I can not find it in editions 1997 and 2000. Is the sunken tub tile? If it is, the tile will need to be removed down to the underlying wood structure, and the floor built up to the proper level and re-tiled. The drain will have to be disconnected from the old tub set-up and changed to a 2" drain appropriately placed. The faucet will have to be changed to a shower only set-up, or at the very least, the spout removed and plugged. well, my idea would to get a plumber to add in a shower head at the top of the shower. Now, I have only seen a sunken shower once, at my aunties. All they did was get a shower head in the top. If you want a walk in shower...hmm..well. DONT CUT HALF THE TUB OFF! that will be sharp, and hard, and probably cost alot to. Just get some frosted panes of glass, and stand them up, put the metal bars on the ground so it opend easily. Im sorry if I can't help :( I tried! Only way: remove the old and ceramic tile the enclosure. Then, buy a glass sliding doors (available in all h/ware stores especially for walk in tubs). |
