How do i connect my new light?

How do i connect my new light fitting?
I have a ceiling rose cover(i think this is waht its called) revealing 3 red wires and 3 black and 2 earth wires connected to block(where no other wires can be connected.1earth wire connected to case. Then at the ends of the block a blue and brown going down(i know this is the connection for the bulb holder. I then have a new light i bought and there are 2 wires taped up black (not going anywhere,What are these?)then 1 red ,1 black, and 1earth connected into a block(which other wires can fit) other earth connceted to case. There are 4 slots in total .how do i connect the new light?

pick up yellow pages and call an electrician 拢40 save your family life. you obviously cant trace the wires from the light you are taking out and comprehending putting the new light wires in the same place
red is brown
blue is black
earth is the same

Ignore the taped-up black wires on the fitting..

Looking at the 4 slots on the terminal block.

One slot is for the permanent lives (the wires in the centre of the ceiling rose)

One slot is for the switched lives (where the brown wire is connected). Connect the red on the fitting to this.

One slot is for the neutral wires (where the blue is connected)
Connect the black on the fitting to this.

And the final slot is for ALL the earth wires to be joined at.

A good tip is to label all the wires as you take them out of the ceiling rose. Masking tape and a pen will do.

Turn off the MAIN switch (all power) before you attempt it.

Contrary to what anyone else may claim any competent person may do this work.

Sounds like a lot of wires and if you know nothing about electrical fittings don't risk it get an electrician.

If you look here you will find plenty of answers regarding fitting lights- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/diy/el...

I totally agree with yabbadabba. It is not worth it if you are not sure what your are doing. You cant see the electricity before it sends you flying across the room or even worse.

If you are not familiar with electrics then don't take the risk it can endanger your life and can cause a fire. I can give you advice how to connect the new light but in doing so will make me liable should you do it wrong. best thing to do is to get in a professional. Remember red is live and red is going to switches and returning to live, blacks are neutral. earths are green and should be connected to get full continuity to the house.

You have a blue wire and a brown wire at each end of the ceiling rose. The blue wire is the neutral, and that is connected to your black wire from your new light fitting.Even if you have to remove the ceiling rose for your new light to fit. The brown wire is the switched live. This is where the red wire from your light will fit. That will enable you to switch it on and off at the light switch. Leave the other red wires alone, they are the permanent live wires. If you have to remove the ceiling rose, these wires must still be connected together.
The earth wires need to be connected together.
Before you begin make sure you switch off the appropriate lighting circuit at the consumer unit. So if the old light is on, you should be able to turn it off at the consumer unit.
Do not rely on using the light switch to turn off the power.
If you are using the connector make sure you tape it upafterwards using insulation tape.

All the answers your getting are correct.
Get a fully qualified electrician to carry out this work, who will furnish you on completion a nieec certificate.
Don't take chances

You don't if you have sense, electricity kills.................

this is not a diy question.if you have no idea at all you must never mess with electricity get in a pro.same goes for gas get in a pro.
