How close can a recessed light be to a rafter in the ceiling? |
I am placing a remodel recessed light in the ceiling, but it ends up being close to a rafter. How much space is generally required? Must check manufacturer's specs on unit. Lots of varieties out there. Four inches as per the other answer may be an electricial code regulation and those may vary from location to location. However, you ask "generally" so the answer may be correct. If the light fixture is flourescent, you can place it where you like. There is little heat so you could even place it on the rafter. Use common sense and keep in mind that you want to avoid a fire. If the fixture is well insulated or if there is no heat and fire issue, I would place it where I preferred. Good luck. 4 inches |
