Is there a way to use a sponge instead of sand paper when Spackleing? |
I am doing a little light plastering around a damaged area from taking off an old light fixture. I have put on a first coat and I have heard that you can use a wet sponge instead of sand paper. (a lot less mess?) Any advice? Yes. Just as a suggestion, I have had good results using an old, damp towel on spackle. It seems to smooth it down faster than a sponge, and either way beats sanding, in my opinion, at least on small jobs like yours. While the Spackling is still wet, yes, you can. Once this stuff dries and it needs to be sanded smooth to the same level as the surrounding wall board then is where you need to use the sand paper. If the fix is going to be behind a fixture, then it would not need to be sanded down. Yes you can do that. A damp sponge will remove some of the spackle and help feather the edges. There are two basic kinds of drywall compound, the "general purpose" and "Setting" types. |
