Is there a way to demolish a sidewalk without using a concrete saw?

My neighbour is asking me to help her remove the concrete
path that leads up to her front step. I just want to know if I cn do this with a sledge hammer, or if I have to rent a concrete saw.

Some muscle and a sledge hammer will work just fine.

we did it with a sledge. hurts your arms a bit but it works.

A big pry bar helps, too. Lever up large pieces and put a block under them. Having an air space under the slab makes it break much easier.

power sledge hammer.

Yes...to complete this task you will need only 4 things.
1) trusty sledge hammer
2) good gloves
3) 6 pack of beer (provided by the neighbor)
4) One tube of Icey Hot

Edit *** I can't stress enough the importance of #3

Depending on thickness of concrete, a sledge hammer is fine to use. I wouldn't think it will be too thick. A concrete saw wouldn't be the best anyway.A Pneumatic drill would be better.Good Luck!

Most sidewalks a relatively thin, and can me broken up with a sledge hammer...but why bother? Small jackhammers (50lbs) can be rented at several places. Check for availability in your area. Either way, remember to wear eye protection.
