What is the most efficient option for attic ventilation? |
I have a 1950's cape cod style home. The attic (crawl space) just has small vents on the house under either side of the peak. They're small louvered vents that blend in with the siding (don't know what they're actually called). We had that same problem and had those fans installed on the roof ; I think they are called Roof Turbine fans. We had two installed because we have a 3000 sq ft house. It has helped enormously. Buy them at Lowes or Home Dept Least expense, most efficient, least trouble, non powered-- roof turbines. They have different length collars to raise them above the peak. Will drop the attic/ceiling temp by many, many degrees. At least two. A "whole house" fan, that installs in the ceiling, drawing the air from inside the house, into the Attic, and powering (blowing) it out the vents you described. A thermostatically controlled, gable mounted attic fan. You already have the louvered vents, so all you'd have to do is simply mount the fan inside one of the louvered vents. They go on and off according to temp inside the attic. A lower attic temp will mean your home's A/C works less. Here are a few examples http://www.electricsuppliesonline.com/nu... |
