How do I remove a sliding glass shower door that is riveted in? |
I'm remodeling a house with nasty, gross sliding glass shower/ bathtub doors. I have removed the doors, but the rails are held with rivets, not screws. What is the best way to remove the rivets to get the rails off without damaging the tiling or tub? Use a drill bit for metal and slightly smaller than the head of the rivot. Drill straight and center of rivet head. When the rivet head breaks free the edges will spin around drill bit and a ring will be left. The right size metal bit will ensure that you don't drill to far into your project and will also keep enough pressure on your rivet so it won't spin. But if you are not worried about drilling to far or taking a chance on spin out, use any size bit that is larger than your rivet. Drill the rivets out. the only way i know how to remove a rivot from any surface is by drilling it. use a drill bit a little larger than the rivot hole and drill through. Can you drill the rivets out? If it is not too close to the wall or tub etc... then should be able to safely drill them out if there is no other way of removing the door with out having to remove the rivets. Good luck hope this helps! |
