Has anyone on here replaced a Manufactured Home window with one larger than original and would share any tips? |
Ok...a contractor told me it was different so I thought he knew better than me...thanks. The difference might be that many manufactured homes use glue on the exterior panels and on the drywall. If the window is wider than the original, you need to put a new header, king studs and jack studs. In that case the wall around these components might need to be opened in order to frame it properly. To open it and remove the old studs can be difficult to the uninitiated. I have done this on a stick framed house without opening up a large hole, but it takes more care and time. why would it be any different than a regular house... Dr. L is correct. Cut the rough opening to the size you need, usually 1/2" larger in each plane. Stud it off. Insert and level window, shim if needed, fasten, flash it off and seal it. Depending on your interior & exterior the finish trim will be to your taste. DO NOT use self expanding foam insulation between the window frame and the stud unless you know what you are doing or you will bow the frame and the window will not work and/or seal correctly. Use fiberglass batting. |
