What are the most common birds in Southern California?

I am helping my daughter make a bird feeder for our backyard and we wanted to put some homemade birdfood in it instead of the generic store bought ones. Does anyone know what the most common birds are in SoCal and what they eat?

Which ever ones(seeds) you use I wanted to give you a heads-up. Bird feeders spill seeds onto the ground. Those seeds are big time magnets for mice and rats so keep the area clean clean clean...
In So Cal there are lots of sparrows and finches. They like smaller seeds. I can also tell you depending on where you live you may succeed in luring scrub jays and mocking birds with peanuts in the shell. If Jays get comfortable enough with your yard they can be trained to eat out of your hand. FUN!

Sparrows, crows, and some doves. Sometimes you see a hawk. There where Blue Jays, but they have died from disease. Sparrows like small seeds, Millet,etc.

I have tons of pidgins where I live well they live in our air conditions so we don't have air-conditioning or heat. or well Not electric any way.
