Is a 24000 btu air conditioner too big for a 700 sq ft apartment? |
I live in an old building that is poorly insulated. I am planning on putting it in the kitchen to replace an existing one that is only 5000 btu's. I want to make sure that it will cool my apartment. I am also putting it in the wall vs the window, if that helps at all. Thanks Everyone! Yes that's too big... The problem your most likely gonna have is that that big of a unit will cool the house down so fast it will never run long enough to get rid of the moisture that is in your house... Humidity plays a big part in cooling... A cool dry house is more comfortable than a cool muggy house... The unit needs to run for a certain amount of time so that the evaporator coils sweat, and pulls the moisture out of your house... A 12,000- 16,000 btu would be about what you would need... 20,000 BTU would be a better fit, but if your insulation is really bad you may need the bigger unit. It will take more power which adds up to more expense to run as well as your wiring requirements for the bigger units. Stay cool and Good Luck. A split system can be oversized. big time over kill, you do not need that big of an ac unit. also remember a 24,000 BTU uses 220v a 5000 uses 110v to big. |
