Will a toilet flush by pouring a large bucket of water in the bowl?

My water tank is cracked and has no water. Will the toilet still function by pouring atleast 1.6 gallons in the bowl?

Mine does..

Yes, it does work. Just pour it in as fast as your toilet tank would.

Even better, you can find a tank that will probably fit your toilet on craigslist. Buy the new washers and stuff at home depot for a few bucks, and your toilet will be good as new!

But yeah, it will kind of flush if your pour it in the bowl, but not the same as flushing normally operates.

When you flush with a bucket, your just overcoming the water level needed to equalize the "trap" similar to what is called a P-Trap on a sink...

When you flush w/ the lever, water comes down the sides, but also shoots out from the bottom, forcing things "down the drain" a pressure gradient is also in effect, pulling the water out of the bowl.

When you flush w/ a bucket, your exchanging the water in the bucket w/ some of the water in the bowl, and most of the bowls dirty water will go down the drain, but it won't be as clean a flush as when your plumbing is working right.

yep

Yes, that does work.

yep.but this will grow old real fast.

yes

Yes.

why do you need a toilet if you have a bucket?

Yes it does work !! Had to do it as a kid when my parents plumbing took a crap ......kept a bucket of water in the tub, filled it up ...dumped it in ....done

If you pour any more than 1.6547677855 gallons, it won't work.
