I want to replace a wall switch for my garbage disposer with a sink top switch?

In the same box I have a duplex receptical and a switch controling another receptical for the garbage disposal. I want to eliminate the duplex and switch and replace it with just a sink top switch for the disposer.
I want to eliminate every thing on the wall above the sink and just to make a straight circut to make the sink top switch work.

There is a very easy solution to this. Home Depot sells what is called a pressure switch. This is a very nice button that installs on top of your counter, and it is designed just for that purpose, also here is a link to someone else so you can see what it looks like.
I have the same one and works great. The electric is not at the button so it can get wet and there is no problem.
Very good design

All you do is connect the leads so that the switch is always on then the plug were the disposed is connected is always hot, and the pressure switch takes over. You can put a blank face to the switch, or if you were to put a new back splash that can cover that hole.
Good luck Report Abuse

I never recommend placing a switch of any kind on the countertop, due to water impregnation. it's too easy for water or some other liquid to get into the switch, and cause severe damage. if your hands are wet, and you hit the switch, and there is misture in the switch box, you will get FULL AMPERAGE!! this will KILL!!!

Instead, mount a switch just under the counter, inside the cupboard under the sink. it's very simple, you can remove the recepticle and switch on the wall, and it's safe!!!

A sink top switch works with air rather than electricity. I guess your question is how to get rid of the existing box, receptacle, and switch? Go under the sink and pull down the wires from above. Put them in a junction box mounted to the cabinet back or side. Connect your sink top switch devise to the disposal wires per the instructions. When you disconnect the receptacle note whether it feeds anything else. Don't forget, you can always get an electrician to do the job correctly and quickly.

It is recommended that you dont do this. The reason is that the outlet is there for a reason per code. However if you do take out the switch you could add an outlet to make it a double duplex.

I advise getting an electrician to do it.
