Is it safe to eat fish 7 days after the sales date?

I have some talapia fish that was purchased on March 9th from Sam's club, it's now March 16th and I was thinking about eating it. I've scrubbed it, washed it in cold water, and put it in the over for about 30 minutes (12 minutes over the recommended time) at 400 degrees. It had a little fishy smell before I put it in, but most fish does to me anyway.

Think it's safe to eat? It's all golden brown and flakey on my kitched counter and it smells great. Just wary of E Coli.....

Thoughts?

The sales date on package says "March 9th"

I really wouldn't eat it.
Fresh fish, fish that is not frozen when you buy it, should be eaten that day or frozen. Frozen fish, fish that is frozen when you buy it should be eaten within a few months or the day that you thaw it. E. coli is a great buzz term but, unless your fish was miss handled with infected beef then fish usualy will not have that bactera strain. This does not mean that fish can not have a slew of other bactera or illness causeing problems.
Fish systems are great for fish but bad for people. When fish is commercally cought, it should be kept alive or killed right away and gutted then quick frozen on the boat. If this is not done, the bacteria from the fishes digestive tract will start to digest the fish. This bacteria can be just as deadly as the "Big guns" E.Coli, hepetitus and saminlla (sp?)
In the culinary world there is a saying that has saved many lives, "When in doubt, throw it out."

If you can smell it don't eat it

Just by asking the Q is the answer

No way - throw it out and save yourself getting sick

The fridge! No I would have to say No... You can't mess around with meat, maybe beef you can get away with for a few days. For your own stomach and bowels sake, I would say no....

The sale date has the storage and all that already factored in. Is the money you spend on a new one more than the money you will lose staying home from work after eating it? Just get a new one.

Not a chance--you also have to consider campylobactor, salmonella, and a whole host of other nasties. Fish should be eaten within 2 days of purchase if fresh. Order a pizza instead!!!

I wouldn't...that's a bit too far overdue...

Are you just playing with us. Of course you cannot eat safely eat it.

i would say no unless it was in the freezer

As my compadres have stated. Chuck it dude and save some TP! ;)

I would say no, it's dangerous, any food that is expired already shouldn't be eaten. U might get sick.
