Can you use Oven bags in a crockpot?

I'm intrigued with the new crockpot liners, but I have a recipe that I would like to cook overnight and all the stores are closed. The oven bag fits inside my crock and is rated for 350. Will this work?

Yes, the two types of bags are made from exactly the same material. They are just cut to different sizes and sealed at different places. One is sealed to make the longer side opening wide for the crock pot, and the other is sealed to make the shorter side open for an oven bag.

I actually tried an experiment cutting open one of the oven bag's seals and using my vacuum sealer's heat strip to seal the other edge. It worked perfectly!

Why would you want to? Just cook it directly in the crockpot with any bags or liners.....I bet the flavors will be better.

You sure can, I find they actually work better than the crockpot liners.

I think it could work for you.

I've bought the crockpot liners before and used them. I've also used the oven bags (although just in the oven). I don't think a crockpot gets to 350 degrees (especially if you cook on low overnight). The oven bags tell you to put a little flour in the bottom of the bag before you seal it.

I think you could try it. The oven bag is built to withstand heat.

However the official blurb at the Oven bag website under FAQS says, " Can I use oven bags in electric roaster ovens or as a "boiling bag"?
Oven bags should not be used under a broiler, on the stovetop, on barbecue grills, in toaster ovens, countertop convection ovens, electric roaster ovens, or as boiling bags. The possibility of exposing the bag to the heating elements or to heat extremes makes these cooking methods unacceptable for bags.

Can I use oven bags in my slow cooker?
No, we do not recommend it. Try Reynolds庐 Slow Cooker Liners. They were specifically developed and sized for use in slow cookers, while Reynolds庐 Oven Bags were designed and sized to hold large cuts of meat for pan-roasting in the oven. There is enough of a size and shape differential between the products that we recommend using each product for its intended use."

I think if you put the tablespoon of flour in the bottom (as the oven bag manufacturer asks for) that it would be fine-- especially because their main qualm up above is that the bag wouldn't fit in a crock pot but your bag does.

I would try it.

However, if you don't have peace about it, cook it without the bag. :)

Peace is a good internal judge most of the time. :)

sure it will work as long as the edges of the bag extend over the crockpot it should work just like those made for the oven - just follow package directions - you will probably have to roll the bag closed a little if the crockpot top doesn't fit securely enough to produce the steam necessary to cook your item. good luck

I was intrigued by your question because I didn't know there was any such thing as a crock-pot liner. I wouldn't waste my money on liners since my crock is removable from the cooker and can be soaked overnight to loosen any food particles. If your crock isn't removable, I suppose I could see a purpose for a liner. Otherwise just save your money and let it soak.

Here's the official answer from the Alcoa website:
