How do I take some of the hot spiciness out of my chili?

I over spiced my chili! Is there any way to take some of the heat out of the chili? Someone once told me to use a potato or crushed pineapple to take the heat out. Do these things work, and how do you go about doing it?

you were told right.... peel a whole potatoe... and stick it in your pot of chili... it will soak most of the spicy taste up... ive done this too many times... and yes it works... try it... if the poatoe soaks up too much... just add a LITTLE bit of spice when its done... GOOD LUCK... oh yeah... send a bowl of chili this way... sounds yummy.. hhaha.. Zoe

you need to take the seed out of the chili, as this is were the heat is in the chili. just scrape it out, also use larger chili's because the small ones are the hottest.

You need to add some stuff to adsorb the spice I would use uncooked rice but you may have to add more liquid I use tomato juice or you could add more beans

Or double the recipe and do not add any more spice

But which ever one you choose to do you will have to simmer it for a few hours which makes it tastes better any way

Potato will not work -- that's for saltiness. Pineapple might work because of the sweetness. Some dark chocolate (like Mexican, if you can find it) or sugar will also help to balance out the heat. Also, you could throw in a few more tomatoes to kind of thin it out a bit.

yes, pineapple juice does work, also, use 2 teaspoons of sugar for every pot. also, drinking milk and eating bread with the chili will take the edge off, but the longer it stands, the spicier it will be!

Add fat to neutralize it.

use lemon,,,,but this will make it lemon-y though...but it's the only thing that works

I use something sweet to balance out the heat. sugar is always good just don't over do it and make it sweet. potatoes soak up salt not heat sorry.

You can add a can of beans or a can of water and cook it back down to a less spicy level. Try adding a spoonful of sugar and stirring and tasting to see if it helps. It depends on the spice you overused, too, as to what will be the antidote. A can of crushed pineapple will not hurt the chili. You can blend a can of peaches and pour that in if you don't have pineapple. Best of luck to you!
