How do I remove a cigarette smoke smells out of my apartment?

My new apartment just really smells like old, musty cigarettes. I've tried burning candles, febreeze, everything, but no luck. Any ideas on how to get it out?

Open the windows. Wash EVERYTHING with soapy water. Try steam cleaning the carpet. Wash the walls and windows, cabinets, and even in the closet. Whatever you do, don't forget the ceiling - smoke rises. Most people just paint, if you do that just remember you have to paint the ceiling too and clean or get rid of any carpeting.

paint paint paint is the only permanent way

First try washing with a good liquid soap. That should do it , if not then u will need to paint walls and ceilings. Also u will need to shampoo carpets , cause they are the main cause of your problem. Good luck.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Duo? It worked for me, so might as well try this cleaning tool. You may also check out this site for cleaning tips and product inquiries.

Can put perfume

i have the same problem and would really love to know. :D

wash the walls floors drapes and furniture

I had that problem too when I first moved in. Mine was a result of the carpet padding. Before I moved in I requested new carpet AND padding underneath. The padding underneath holds smells and stains as well. Also, had a professional cleaner come in, (not the handyman's sister-professional! :-p ) and clean everything, and I have central heating & air so I replaced the air filters so no more stale& musty air. This helped my apartment.

First you should open windows.
then wash the drapes.
if it's possible clean the walls & floor.
after that you could use perfume oil with a warmer.

It's time to repaint and wash what you can't paint with bleach and water mixture.

Try Oust, seems to do the trick.

Dampen a towel, wave it around each room. The water in the towel absorbs the smell.

Here is what I did.. I opened the windows.. turned on the fans and cleaned the house with water and mixed in it was simple green(I love simple green because of its odor) and it works for me

If you open your windows or door during some part of the day it helps it. Another thing would be there is some other things that you can use like sprays that are meant for cigarrette smoke. Ask or rad the labels on these type of sprays that are made specifically for that .

wash everything ceiling to floor. and that does include carpets. alot of times however that nasty cigarette smell will even get into the furniture and window coverings that you moved into the place. Which is the major reason people are NOT allowed to smoke in my home no matter who they are.

you may want to open a window, steam clean you carpet and wash your drapes...that should help. dont bother covering p the odor, it wont really help.

if you have carpet,s the smell probably in them so lose the carpet,s. You could also try re-decorating it may help a bit .I live in scotland where we just started enjoying no smoking in public places, at my place off employment they had a smoking room they re-decorated but it still stinks so it must be the carpet

Open the windows, the door, and spray until you have no more in the bottle. Burn some incense if you have to.

The best air freshener I've found is "Oust". Give it a try.

try cleaning with baking soda i love it and it works on just about any thing. you can use it dry on your carpets dust on and then vacuum it up. Add it to your laundry when washing your curtains also add it to the soap and water for the walls. it also works well with vinegar if that doesn't work maybe it is coming from somewhere else like a neighbor or something in the walls. i doubt it but you never know.
good luck with your smelly apartment.

Redo the walls; wallpaper or paint.

Or take moist wash cloth and wash the existing one.

Or leave a plate of cut onions on in the middle of your apartment and put a pot of fresh coffee beside it (for a whole day).. works temporarily.

You need to either paint or clean the carpets.
