Is it possible to make white laundry whiter? |
My white underwear and socks. t-shirt etc are not as white as they used to be, rather a little grey. Is there a way to make them regain their absolute whiteness again? The posters who recommending "blueing agent" are correct! On the farm, my great-grandmother used this not only to make her white clothes dazzlingly-white, but we washed the mane and tail of our palomino horse in blueing to make them white. bleach and hot water. Years ago, women used a 'bluing agent' added to the rinse water to take away the yellow-dinginess. I don't know if it's still on the market. The yellowing is probably from the bleaching...but look for that bluing stuff... Try soaking your white garments in a solution of OXY-Clean. You can mix up a solution in a small pail and soak the garments for a few minutes and checking them peridoically. Using OXY-Clean with each laundry load helps out too! The bluing product I use is Mrs. Smith's bluing. I bought mine in the laundry detergent aisle at Wal-Mart, and yes it is still available. Just be sure you follow the package directions. The stuff can stain if you use too much. The only answer is to use real Clorox it will not yellow the off brands will! This is one of the only products I dont go generic on it has to be real Clorox and yes it will make your whites whiter 1st wash! Good Luck! Oxy clean powder. Put about 2 inches of hot water in a cup and add a scoop of Oxy clean to activate and melt the granuals. Mix well and add to your laundry water. It's great for colors too! bluing agent. if you can't find it in your super market, The Vt. country store catalog carries it. It works. u could try bleaching ur white clothes =) it is not possible 2 make u whites whiter I don't think whites can ever be restored to the same as when they were completely brand-new. |
