How do get urine out of a mattress?

My little sister wet her bed and I need to know how to clean it effectively so it doesn't smell. And no, burning the mattress isn't an option, thank you. Real responses are appreciated.
Oh, and what exactly am I supposed to clean it with? Ammonia, what? And when washing the sheets what kind of vinegar should I use? I heard something about using that, but I'm not sure.

When my kids would wet the bed when they were little, we would sprinkle a large amount of baking soda on the wet area and let it dry, the soda seemed to pull a lot of the liquid into it. After it dried, we simply vacummed it and all was well.

Well vinegar and ammonia's will get rid of the surface smell. use a 10:1 of water: vinegar.

My son throw-up on his bed and I used hot soapy water, then fabreeze and Lysol. I kept repeating and repeating for the whole day. I can't smell a thing today and no stain either.

Another suggestion might be to call a mattress store and ask what they would do.

Hope this helps,

if you do get rid of the smell buy a mattress cover so you never have to do it again.

It's quite sad that humans can pee, but we can't unpee. If you can't afford to replace it, try leaving it outside in the wind for a few days. (Not in the rain, of course.)

TAke it outside and wash it with the watering hose. You can put some liquid detergent on the mattress before hand..Leave outside to air dry. Pre soak sheets in washing machine with detergent then wash it. NOte: Keep mattress upright while using watering hose.

yeah right u probably peed in yo self.......................im just playing
the best thing to use is toobrush and blech
for the cheets use bleach and apple cider vineger

dont use ammonia, urine contains it and it will just make it smell stronger.there isnt anything that I ever found though, good luck.

Just use some soap and a little elbow grease. Maybe spray the bed with lysol afterwards.

The sheets should be fine if you just wash it in the washer.

You would need to put the mattress out in the fresh air, and sunshine. Sunshine is key to getting the germs out that cause the smell in the first place. It would not hurt to put some white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, and then spray the mattress while it's in the yard in the sunshine. Use one part vinegar to three parts water.

As for the sheets. I would wash them with shampoo and regular laundry detergent. I just put the same amount of detergent as I normally would, and then add the equivalent of two to three tablespoons of shampoo into the wash as well.

If you don't want to use the shampoo, you could also add some vinegar instead. Be sure to use white vinegar though, because the red wine, or apple vinegar may stain your clothes.

Also, if the room smells too, you could put a bowl of white vinegar in the room, shut the door, and leave it in there all day. When your sister goes to bed at night, take the bowl out, and the room should not have any smell at all. (White vinegar absorbs smells - smoke, pet, and urine, as well as burnt smells.)

Hope this helps.

With my brother, we used to spray the entire matress with a can of Lysol and then air the matress out for a day.

The sheets can be washed normally in warm or hot water.
