What is the best way to clean hard wood floors?

i used a swifter and it kinda just left streaks and dirt smeared everywhere. help!

According to the guy who refinished my hardwood floors (and through experience of having hardwood floors for years), there's only one way to clean a hardwood floor:

1 - Use a vacuum with a soft attachment to pick up all dirt and debris from the cracks and corners.

2 - Mix a mild detergent (like a general cleaning detergent) with warm-to-hot water, about 1/2 cup of detergent per gallon of water.

3 - Using a soft terry cloth or rag (that's right - you have to do it on your hands and knees), clean about a 3-foot-square area. Then, rinse and wring out the rag, and use it to sop up any extra water.

4 - Immediately use an old bath towel or whatever to completely dry the area you just cleaned. Drying immediately prevents water spots, streaks, or residue from forming.

5 - Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the entire floor is clean.

6 - In between washings, use a dust mop to remove accumulated dust and debris. A dust mop is about a 3-foot-wide fuzzy dry mophead attached by a swivel to a mop handle. You just move the mophead back and forth across the floor, always moving the mophead in the same direction (that's what the swivel is for). It takes about 5 minutes to dust about 1000 square feet of hardwood flooring.

They sell hard wood floor cleaner. this is what we use on real wood foors.

I, too, use the swiffer wet jet and I know what you mean. I always rinse the floor afterwards and that takes away that filmy streak.

put a little lemon juice on a swiffer and go over the floors it works nicely... Hope they shine!! :)
