How can make this old carpet floor dust free for my soon to arrive baby?

I am renting this house and carpets are probably good 20 years old. I steam cleaned them recently and vacuum cleaned too but still there's an awful lot of dust everyday on furniture for every weekly cleaning.

I am worried about bringing my baby here. Please guys, how can I make this carpet dust free? Or is there any way I can atleast cover the old carpet in nursery with something else. I don't know if i wouyld be able to fine a big enough area rug.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

The best idea will be to cover the carpeting if you are renting.

You might consider a modular "carpet tile" area rug. The initial cost might seem high but the carpet tiles are 19.7 inches square and you can install it yourself over the existing carpeting and take it with you later if you should move. The "tiles" can be taken up and washed in the sink if one gets s spill or a stain. The low nap would not collect dust and be very easy to maintain.

I think it is a great solution to a lot of carpeting dilemmas.

Enjoy preparing for your sweet baby!

Well the only idea I can come up with is to use the anti stress foot cushioning mats. Installation is just putting mats together literally like puzzle pieces. It doesn't get any easier.

Check this link to get the idea-

I used these in my kitchen when I was having foot problems. I found them in gray at Walmart for like, 5 dollars a pack. They come in bright colors as well, that might go better in your nursery.

Just think, if you accidently drop the baby, he/she will bounce right back into your arms! LOL! (sorry couldn't resist)

if it is the carpet .i its problem the pad .steaming it will make it worse. and their will be a mold from it . you should at least replace the pad in the nursery. this can be done at a fraction of replacing the carpet accessed unclesamsmoney to help people maybe this will help you pass it on

you child is not a lab rat, dust is everywhere, germs are everywhere, in attempting to twart little things, what you will end up doing is crippling your child with a weak immune system. the human body has to fight to survive and the more it fights the small things, the stronger you immune system will become. (what ever doesnt kill you will only make you stronger) dust doesnt kill, as far as I know (unless its composed of particles known by the EPA to cause cancer.)

I would talk to the landlord and tell him your concerns about the baby breathing in that dust. I would ask him if he would consider tearing the carpet out and putting down a different type of flooring such as linoleum or if there is hardwood under the carpet, clean it up good and put down a big area rug. Carpets that old harbor many many germs....not only dust. Carpets can also hold in mold that can be harmful to your baby.

If he doesn't like that idea ask him if you could use some of next months rent to do the flooring and you tear out the carpet and put the linoleum down!

I would try to appeal to your landlord.... Tell him that the carpeting concerns you since you are bringing in a new baby and want the carpet to be in resonable shape...

He may be willing to work with you and maybe split the cost.

You also may be able to find a remmanent at the home improvement store that may cover most of the nursery...

Good luck
