How do I remove grease stains from brass? |
I had some brass parts created by a local machinist. The machinist failed to keep his greasy fingers away from the brass parts, causing most of the brass parts to be stained with grease. I've tried using warm soap and water to remove, but that didn't work. How can I remove the grease stains from the brass parts without damaging the brass? try a brass cleaner like Brasso If you don't have Brasso or Mr Metal, use lemon juice. It will also brighten the brass but it can cut right through the greasy paw prints. Use Brasso it's a cleaner for brass I've had the best luck with a buffer. My little Dremel tool gets quite a work out sometimes. Try some jewelers rouge, that is a polish you can get from your local jewelers. There are also some very good polishes in your local auto shops. Work it over with Brass O after to seal the finish... True brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. It tends to oxidize (tarnish) quickly when exposed to air which is a major reason why most brass is given a clear coating of lacquer to prevent this condition. Most conventional polishes such as "Brasso 庐", "Twinkle 庐", etc. coat the raw metal with a thin film of oil to inhibit the development of future tarnishing. Brass is primarily used for decorative purposes Use Ketsup.I clean all my brass with it. |
