My wife and I are having a Eurasian daughter. What are names not foreign to both USA and Japanese people? |
I am caucasian and my wife is Japanese. We are wanting names for our kids that aren't too foreign to either the USA or Japan. Ami or Emi (close to Amy), Hana [flower] (similar to Hannah), Mai or Mei (May), Mariko (it's similar to the tons of names derived from Mary and starting with 'mari' e.g. Marion, Marianne, Mariette), Naomi or Rina. I think that is really tough since the languages are so different. I have a cousin who is adopted from china and she has an american first name and a chinese middle name and that works well for her. You might try something like that depending on which country you spend the most time in. What about Mai? Obviously you can change the spelling or slightly alter the pronunciation to suit your needs; such as Mae, May or Mei. Best of luck to you and your wife! Name her AKIRA!!!! that name is beautiful and it means intelligent in Japanese and it was the 965 most popular name in the US in 2006! i would personally use it. Rikki Suri I'm not absolutely sure if this one fits both, but my best friend from Japan was named Naomi. She went by Veronica in the states. I'm caucasian and my sister has Naomi as her middle name. I think it's pretty. Good luck! Would Lily work? My friend who's English adopted a Chinese daughter and chose Lily because it works in the UK and China. I guess your wife would be the best person to know what names fit both cultures though. pekpek Misha, Ayu, Erika, Sari, Maya, Tami, Kira (from the word kira-kira: sparkle), Risa, Naomi. Lei Andrew, Michelle Leigh, John Lee, Erika, Hannah, Yulia, Amy, Lisa, Mina... Lee, Wu, ana hana ami mai mari nana nami kimi kimmie oka rena Akira ( LOL my name ) but i heard Akira in Japan is a male name Kimiko and call her Kimmy Akemi Miki..nickname for mieko...or miko... hero is a really cool name for a girl |
